This Military Appreciation Month, I take a pause to recognize the courageous men and women who serve—and have served—our country. I thank you for your bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms.
But today, I also want to shine a light on a lesser-seen battle: the internal struggle with eating disorders faced by many active-duty military members and veterans.
The pressures of service—discipline, perfectionism, fitness standards, and trauma—can quietly foster disordered eating. And too often, stigma keeps these struggles in the shadows.
To every service member and veteran facing this hidden battle:You are not alone.Your courage doesn’t diminish in struggle—it deepens.Recovery is possible. Help is available. And healing is not a sign of weakness—it’s a powerful act of self-respect.
Let’s broaden the conversation around military wellness. Let’s offer compassion over judgment. Support over silence.
This month, and every month, I honor your service and your strength—both seen and unseen.
For additional support, I encourage you to visit SEA-WAVES non-profit, designed to support our military veterans struggling. In addition, ANAD is offering a support group specifically for our military on 5/23 at 9 AM PST.  To sign up for this free support group, go here.
